Camp Vera

title

Matthew 35-36 - “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’”

This summer we are excited to offer the fourth annual day camp for our immigrant children from June 21 through July 2.  We need your help!!!

This camp was started in response to the Gray’s Lake drowning of Vera Nyaen in July of 2006.  Vera was a treasured child in our congregation who immigrated from Liberia with her family in 2004.  She drowned while swimming with friends.  She did not know how to swim.  We decided that the best way to honor her life was to offer swimming lessons to immigrant children, including her brother.  And why not add other fun activities after swimming?  Our goal is to provide few weeks of fun afternoons for the immigrant children God has placed in our midst.

Here’s how you can help.  Choose what works best for you:

  • Make a financial donation for swim lessons and day camp activities
  • Donate a bathing suit
  • Donate sack lunches one day
  • Pick up and deliver lunches one day
  • Help with registration
  • Be a driver
  • Plan and lead an activity one afternoon
  • Be a helper on one or more days

Please email Lisa Blumhagen (lcbonly (at) gmail.com) or Marge McKeever (grans_granps (at) msn.com) if you have questions or would like to help.  Donations for Camp Vera may be placed in the offering plate on any Sunday with “Camp Vera” written in the memo.

Mark 9:37 - “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
